Overview
The School of Materials Science and Engineering carries out research in a variety of materials-related fields. The major research areas in the School of Materials Science and Engineering are:
Inter-disciplinary research is emphasized, involving faculty from other schools within NTU and overseas research institutes and universities. Industry-sponsored research is active, with research grants being offered by a variety of Singapore and worldwide industrial concerns. The School has research collaborations with some local institutions and world-class organizations.
The School of Materials Science and Engineering offers research programmes, on part-time and full-time basis, that lead to the following degrees:
- Master of Engineering (M.Eng.):
Minimum period of candidature is 12 months, maximum is 36 months
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.):
Minimum period of candidature is 24 months, maximum is 60 months
The School provides rigorous training programmes to equip graduate students with basic research competency and instrument skills for state-of-the-art characterization and analysis facilities. Graduate students can pursue their research interest in nanomaterials, biomaterials, materials characterization, polymer electronics and defence materials.
New students who have just enrolled into our PhD or Master’s programme are encouraged to read the Graduate Handbook here. This copy is also given to you on the day of your matriculation by MSE officers. If you do not have a copy, please look for Ms. Vivian Tan at MSE General Office.
