Published on: 14-Mar-2019

We are pleased to share that Professor Subodh Mhaisalkar has been interviewed on several media platforms during the launch of the world’s first full-size autonomous electric bus. NTU Singapore and Swedish firm, Volvo have jointly launched a 12 metre long autonomous electric bus which is reported to be the first in the world for its length and engine type. The prototype, which can fit about 80 passengers, has undergone multiple trials at the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research of Autonomous Vehicles (CETRAN). It is now ready for trials in real life conditions on the road in NTU and beyond. A key milestone in the joint development programme involving stakeholders from academia, industry and government agencies, the Volvo 7900 electric bus is equipped with numerous sensors and navigation controls which are managed by a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) system.
The prototype will soon begin trials on the NTU Smart Campus before deployment in public
