Current Research Interests
Dr. Yan has over 15 years of
experiences in academic R&D in the field
of energy and environment. Her area of
expertise includes biofuel and biomass
energy, greenhouse gas and climate
change, combustion science and
engineering, thermodynamics in thermal
energy conversion and waste treatment
processes, air toxics emission
abatement, and advanced biotechnology
for clean energy & clean air
applications. She is author or co-author
of 4 patents and more than 130 technical
papers in peer-refereed journals and
conference proceedings, of which 60 are
SCI indexed and 52 are EI indexed. Her
h-index is 15 by February 2009. Dr Yan
has so far co-supervised 14 PhD and
master students. She was also engaged in
teaching to Phd/MSc students in Nanyang
Technological University (NTU) during
2003-2006.
Dr. Yan has been invited as the Visiting
Professor of HUST during 2006-2009. She
is now sitting in the Working Group on
“Standardization of Biodiesel Fuel for
Vehicles in East Asia”, supported by
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
(METI), Japan. She has served as a
reviewer for the journals of
Environmental Science & Technology,
Energy & Fuels, Combustion Science &
Technology, Combustion and Flame, Water
Science & Technology, Fuel, Energy,
Journal of Hazardous Materials, Applied
Microbial Biotechnology, and Journal of
Air & Waste Management Association, etc.

Biographical Information
Dr. Yan Rong obtained her Ph.D. degree
in Environmental (Chemical) Engineering
from the National Center for Scientific
Research (CNRS-IMP), France, under an EU
scholarship awarded from European
Community of Steel and Coal (ECSC). She
received both her MSc and BSc degrees in
Applied Chemistry from Huazhong
University of Science and Technology (HUST),
China. From 1992 to 1996, she was a
lecturer/researcher in the State Key
Laboratory of Coal Combustion at HUST.
Since February 2000, Dr Yan has been a
Research Scientist/Senior Research
Scientist/Center Director at the
Institute of Environmental Science and
Engineering (IESE), Singapore.
