The four-year MSE undergraduate programme will lead
you to a professional degree, the Bachelor of
Engineering (Materials Engineering) with Honours. If
you achieve outstanding results in the first
semester of Year 1, you will be offered entry into
the Accelerated Bachelor’s Programme where you can
earn your degree in 3½ years.

You will experience a broad education in Year 1 and
learn the important aspects of science and
engineering. You will learn the fundamental
techniques of materials science, characterization
and applications in Year 2 and 3. You will also
undertake industrial attachment in the third year.
In Year 4, you may select advanced Prescribed
Electives to fulfill your specific interest in
materials science and engineering.
For a broad-based education, you must fulfill a 30%
criterion in non-technical broadening General
Education Requirement (GER) courses. These courses
will complement your professional discipline and
train you to be a critical thinker with fluent
communication and quantitative skills.
The third year Industrial Attachment Programme in
MSE offers you an in-depth exposure to the working
life of a materials engineer. The Global Immersion
Programme (GIP) and International Student Exchange
Programme (INSTEP) are excellent opportunities for
you to apply for an overseas attachment experience
in China, France, Germany, India or USA.
While pursuing an MSE Major, you may take up a Minor
programme in business, computer engineering,
environmental engineering or any other option
available within NTU. No additional fees will be
incurred for the Minor programme but you should
expect to put in more time and effort to complete
both Minor and Major courses
The four-year MSE programme leads to the Bachelor of
Engineering (Materials Engineering) with Honours. If
you achieve outstanding results in the first
semester of Year One, you will be offered entry into
the Accelerated Honours Stream, where you can earn
your degree in three-and-a-half years.
